At least four people lost their lives on Wednesday when a small boat carrying around 40 migrants capsized off the coast of Laayoune as it headed toward the Canary Islands. Among the victims were a Moroccan woman and three migrants from sub-Saharan Africa. Their bodies were transferred to the morgue of Moulay Hassan Ben Mehdi Hospital in Laayoune. In contrast, 38 other migrants on board were rescued and received medical attention from emergency teams upon reaching the shore, following initial reports of the incident received by authorities. The Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
