Morocco's telecommunications giants, Maroc Telecom (IAM) and Inwi (Wana Corporate), have officially announced the launch of their joint ventures «Uni Fiber» and «Uni Tower» designed to accelerate the deployment of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and 5G networks across the Kingdom. The creation of these joint ventures follows an agreement signed on March 27 by IAM and Wana, which received regulatory approval from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) on June 18, according to a press release. The goal of the initiative is to expand broadband internet access nationwide. Uni Fiber will focus on rolling out the passive infrastructure needed to deliver FTTH services, with a target of 1 million connections within two years and 3 million within five years. Uni Tower, meanwhile, will be responsible for building new telecom towers or upgrading existing ones. The company aims to reach 2,000 towers within three years and 6,000 towers within ten years. The planned investment for the first three-year phase is estimated at MAD 4.4 billion. Both Uni Fiber and Uni Tower will offer open, transparent, and non-discriminatory access to their infrastructure for all duly authorized operators, in full compliance with applicable regulations, concludes the press release.
