OCP Green Water (OGW), a subsidiary of the OCP Group, has officially commissioned its new pipeline connecting the Jorf Lasfar desalination plant to the Khouribga mining site, an infrastructure project spanning more than 200 kilometers and enabling the large-scale transfer of desalinated water. With an estimated cost of 5 billion dirhams, this strategic project will transport up to 80 million cubic meters of water per year, significantly easing pressure on conventional water resources. The initiative serves two main objectives: ensuring water self-sufficiency for the Khouribga mining complex, home to the world's largest phosphate deposit, and supplying drinking water to the city, while also supporting regional agricultural needs. «This pipeline marks a major milestone in our water sovereignty strategy. It will reduce reliance on dams by 80% and ensure the long-term sustainability of our mining operations», said Ahmed Zniber, General Manager of OCP Green Water. Hanane Mourchid, Chief Sustainability Officer at OCP Group, emphasized that the project is part of the Group's green investment program. Initially targeted for 2027, the goal of full autonomy in non-conventional water has been achieved two years ahead of schedule, thanks to this strategic link connecting the Atlantic coast to Morocco's interior. Beyond its technical significance, the project has generated strong socio-economic impacts: nearly one million man-days were mobilized, with an average of 1,300 jobs per day over two years—85% of which were filled by local workers. During the operational phase, around 100 permanent jobs will be maintained. Founded in 2022, OCP Green Water specializes in the development, production, and distribution of non-conventional water resources (desalination and water reuse) for industry, agriculture, and urban supply. With an installed capacity expected to reach 320 million m³ by 2025, OGW already provides water to Safi, El Jadida, Casablanca South, and now Khouribga. By 2027, its capacity is projected to reach 610 million m³, with plans to expand service to cities such as Marrakech. OGW powers its systems entirely with 100% renewable energy and draws on an innovation ecosystem supported by UM6P, INNOVX, JESA, and a network of international partners.
