After a protest by Glovo Morocco delivery workers organized by the Moroccan Workers' Union (UMT) on Monday, July 21 in Casablanca, the company issued a statement reaffirming its «commitment to its community of partner delivery workers». In response to criticism over a truncated map of the Moroccan Sahara appearing in its app, Glovo said it «operates across the entire national territory, from Tangier to Laayoune, in full respect of Morocco's territorial integrity». The company attributed the issue to a «technical glitch» caused by a recent external update and said it was «quickly identified and resolved», with the map now displaying correctly. On the issue of working conditions, Glovo said it supports «open and respectful dialogue with delivery workers, as long as it is constructive and transparent». While the company made no mention of the recent death of a delivery worker in a road accident, it noted that it had held a series of recent meetings «with around a hundred delivery workers in Casablanca in a spirit of constructive engagement». Tensions have been rising for weeks between delivery workers and Glovo Morocco, which has more than 5,500 riders across the country. Following their colleague's death, workers have renewed demands for the right to unionize and for greater recognition of the financial pressures they face, such as having to buy their own jackets and helmets. Glovo says it remains committed to dialogue. But delivery workers continue to criticize what they call «management's actions and decisions», claiming their working conditions are beginning to feel «like modern-day slavery».
