On Tuesday, the Royal Gendarmerie at El Hanchane, a small town near Essaouira, brought a man in his thirties before the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Safi. He is suspected of involvement in a harrowing case of sexual and physical assault on a minor. According to the newspaper Assabah, the incident unfolded late last week. The suspect allegedly encountered a 14-year-old child returning home at night from a wedding in a nearby village. Reports suggest he coerced the child into an abandoned house. Sources reveal that the suspect brutally attacked the victim with a metal object before committing a sexual assault, leaving the child in a dire physical and psychological state. Despite his severe condition, the victim managed to reach his home and inform his mother about the ordeal. She promptly reported the incident to the Royal Gendarmerie the following morning. Gendarmerie officers swiftly arrived at the crime scene, launching a thorough investigation in coordination with the Public Prosecution. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to the emergency department at Mohammed bin Abdallah Regional Hospital, where medical examinations confirmed the sexual assault. Following directives from the Public Prosecution, the suspect was apprehended after a failed attempt to flee. Initially, he denied the charges during interrogation, but later confessed when confronted with the victim and the medical examination results.
