A Rabat court ordered the detention of El Yazid Taghi, President of the Chefchaouen Provincial Council, on Thursday. He was placed in Tamesna Prison following accusations of embezzling public funds. The National Brigade of Judicial Police had launched an investigation into Taghi, a member of the National Rally of Independents party, along with several council employees, over suspected financial irregularities linked to the 2022 budget. The probe revealed potential mismanagement and misuse of public resources. The case emerged after provincial authorities compiled a report highlighting a series of administrative and financial violations within the council. The report was submitted to the Ministry of the Interior, which then dispatched a delegation from the General Inspectorate of Territorial Administration to audit the council's finances and projects. This ultimately led to judicial proceedings and the council president's arrest.
