Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will serve as the official carrier for the 36th São Paulo Biennale, Latin America's leading contemporary art event, taking place from September 6, 2025 to January 11, 2026. According to a statement from RAM's office in Brazil, this unprecedented partnership positions Morocco's national airline as both a logistical and cultural bridge linking Africa, Brazil, and other countries of the Global South. RAM, which resumed its operations in Brazil eight months ago, will be responsible for transporting both artists and artworks to the exhibition, easing the logistical challenges of the event. The partnership is described as both operational and strategic: the 2025 edition, held under the theme «Not All Travelers Follow Roads – On Humanity as Practice», will bring together artists from diverse backgrounds, highlighting the Global South with a strong representation of internationally acclaimed names from Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Transporting artworks requires specialized infrastructure, logistical expertise, and an integrated air network to bring pieces and artists from regions with little or no direct connection to Brazil. Thanks to its transcontinental connectivity, RAM is well-positioned to meet this challenge. With regular flights between São Paulo and Casablanca, the airline serves more than 90 destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America. Several African participants in the Biennale will travel to São Paulo via Casablanca, offering an effective alternative for international transport. «Being the official carrier of the São Paulo Biennale reflects our commitment to building connections between Brazil, Morocco, and the wider world», said Othman Baba, RAM's Regional Director for South America. He added: «Art has the power to create bridges between territories and peoples, and we are here to help make those encounters possible. Brazil is a strategic market for us, and this partnership marks an important step in our South-South integration as a transnational airline». Sponsorship of the Biennale is part of RAM's institutional initiatives, which for years have included supporting film, music, and contemporary art festivals, as part of a broader soft-power strategy and cultural exchange across the Global South. Baba also emphasized Morocco's rich cultural identity: «Morocco is a multicultural country with an endless diversity of artists. Like us, Brazil has strong African roots. Bringing talents from Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and many other countries—globally recognized and celebrated by the curators of the São Paulo Biennale—offers a tangible opportunity to put South-South cooperation into practice». For her part, Andrea Pinheiro, President of the São Paulo Biennale Foundation, highlighted the global reach of the event: «The partnership with Royal Air Maroc shortens distances and paves the way for a more horizontal model of collaboration among Global South countries».
