Moroccan international Eliesse Ben Seghir has joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen from AS Monaco, the German club announced Sunday in a press release. Joining from the French Champions League side, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder has signed a contract with the Bundesliga champions running until June 30, 2030. «Eliesse Ben Seghir is a top-class technician, creative and clever in dribbling, with precise passing that opens up the game. He will give our attack an extra boost», said Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes. «He can play both on the wings and centrally. He's unpredictable and a top addition to our squad. We're excited to see him in a Bayer 04 shirt», he added. Schön, dass du da bist, Eliesse! ? The Bundesliga is very different from Ligue 1, which makes it especially exciting. I'm really looking forward to discovering it». The midfielder, who has 11 caps and 3 goals for Morocco, added: «I've followed Bayer 04's impressive path in recent years. In France and also in Morocco, Bayer Leverkusen is seen as a flagship of German football. It's great to now be part of that». Born in 2005 in Saint-Tropez to Moroccan parents from Tinghir, Ben Seghir began his football journey at SC Cogolinois (2010–2016), later moving to Fréjus St-Raphaël (2016–2018) and AS Aix-en-Provence (2018–2020), before choosing AS Monaco over Olympique de Marseille at the age of 15. At Monaco, he quickly rose to prominence and, in 2024, made his Champions League debut with a standout performance against FC Barcelona. Internationally, the young player committed to Morocco early, making his debut in 2024.
