She is receiving the necessary medical care in a Lisbon hospital, and her condition is stable, according to the embassy, which added that it is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with Portuguese authorities. In a statement to MAP, Morocco's ambassador to Portugal, Othman Bahnini, stressed that embassy staff have been mobilized to provide the necessary support and assistance to the injured national. According to the latest figures released by local authorities, 17 people were killed and 21 others injured when the funicular, which links Rossio Square to Bairro Alto, sped uncontrollably down a steep slope before crashing violently into a building. In response to the tragedy, the Portuguese government declared a day of national mourning, describing the accident as an «unprecedented tragedy».
