Around 39 packages of suspected illegal substances were recently seized at a Panamanian port, where the cargo was part of a shipment in transit between Morocco and New Zealand. According to Panamanian television, the operation was carried out in coordination between the country's drug prosecutor's office and the National Police. TVN 2 reported that the substances, whose exact nature was not disclosed, were uncovered during routine random checks. A search and seizure operation led to the discovery of the 39 suspicious packages. The Director of the Panamanian National Police, Jaime Fernández, told the outlet that by the end of August 2025, nearly seven tons of narcotics had already been seized from containers at port terminals across the country. Authorities said they are stepping up control measures, relying on the regular use of scanners from the National Customs Authority and the deployment of trained personnel. In this context, Security Minister Frank Ábrego announced that the President of the Republic will soon meet with port managers as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
