Honolulu Hale in Hawai'i is hosting Crafting Connection: Doris Duke's Moroccan Commissions, an exhibition organized by the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts in partnership with the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design. The showcase highlights Morocco and celebrates the sister city relationship between Honolulu and the Moroccan capital, Rabat. «Honolulu's sister city relationship with Rabat is a meaningful bridge between our communities, fostering friendship, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding across oceans», said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. The exhibition features historic photographs, texts, and Moroccan architectural elements commissioned in Rabat in the 1930s for Shangri La. «Doris Duke envisioned Shangri La as a place where cultures could interact, converse, and inspire one another», noted museum director Ben Weitz. «It reflects the aloha spirit in action, welcoming beauty, global friendship, and civic diplomacy across oceans», added Jan Rumi, Honorary Consul of Morocco and Bangladesh. The exhibition opened on September 5 and runs until October 6 at Honolulu Hale.
