On Thursday in Rabat, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, met with Celine Berthon, France's Director General of Internal Security, who was accompanied by a high-level security delegation. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation and deepening the partnership between Morocco and France to confront current international and regional challenges. These include terrorist threats in conflict zones, particularly in the Sahel-Saharan region, according to a statement from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance. Both officials underlined the importance of boosting joint security operations between Moroccan and French services, which have repeatedly proven effective in neutralizing terrorist threats on regional and international levels. On this occasion, the French security chief praised the contribution of Moroccan services to ensuring the safety of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. She also discussed ways to coordinate efforts for upcoming major sporting events, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), hosted by Morocco, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, through the exchange of expertise and operational data to counter major public safety risks. The discussions also addressed consolidating cooperation to combat hostile activities threatening the security of both countries, including efforts against external espionage and related threats.
