The controversy over Al Akhawayn School in Ifrane, which refused to re-enroll 16 students, has once again surfaced in Parliament. Khalid Es-Satte, an MP from the National Union of Labor in Morocco, submitted a written question on the issue to the Minister of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports. Es-Satte noted in his question that the school rejected the students' registration despite their families having paid tuition fees, including the increase imposed by the administration. He stressed that this decision has harmed the social and psychological stability of both the students and their parents. The MP called on the ministry to clarify what urgent measures it intends to take to guarantee these children's right to continue their education at the institution, and what steps will be implemented to prevent the recurrence of such practices, which he described as arbitrary and infringing on the natural and constitutional rights of students. For its part, the school explained in a statement that the expulsions were an «exclusive response» to what it described as «repeated violations of internal regulations» by seven families. It further stated that the decision stemmed from «serious, repeated, and sustained acts of harassment and intimidation» targeting teachers, administrators, and even other parents, as well as repeated attempts «to impose decisions related to the governance of the institution: human resources management, textbook selection, educational guidance, financial management, and technology integration». Meanwhile, the families accuse the French director of the school of authoritarianism and extortion, alleging that he runs the institution unilaterally and outside established legal and regulatory frameworks. Last week, Ahmed El Abbadi, MP for the Progress and Socialism Group (PPS) in the House of Representatives, addressed a written question to the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports regarding the circumstances and context of the expulsions. «This decision, which the families consider arbitrary and authoritarian, has sparked angry and critical reactions», the MP wrote. He asked the Minister to clarify the circumstances and details of the case, as well as the «measures the government intends to take to resolve the matter».
