Following the PPS's lead, the general secretariat of the PJD, also in opposition, has expressed its «astonishment» at the official livestock figures released by Morocco's Ministry of Agriculture after a census conducted between June and August. The party denounced what it called an «illogical and abnormal evolution», and urged an «investigation» to establish accountability, «especially since the February census led to the cancellation of Eid al-Adha this year». On August 25, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that «Morocco has recorded an increase in the number of livestock, reaching a total of 32,832,573». Yet, just months earlier, on February 14, 2025, RNI minister Ahmed El Bouari stated during a press briefing that «the Moroccan cattle and sheep herds had decreased by 38%» compared to the 20 million heads recorded in 2016. Last week, the president of the PPS parliamentary group, Rachid Hammouni, formally requested an urgent meeting of the House of Representatives' Productive Sectors Committee to address these «discrepancies» and demanded the presence of the Minister of Agriculture. Meanwhile, head of government Aziz Akhannouch defended the figures released on August 25 during an interview with Al Aoula and 2M on September 10.
