Alstom, the French multinational specializing in rail transport systems, has signed a €260 million (about 2.8 billion dirhams) contract to modernize the Kenitra–Settat railway line, including €150 million (around 1.6 billion dirhams) for Alstom's share. The deal, signed with consortium partners INEO Rail and INEOLUM, covers signaling, telecommunications, cabling, and power supply works, and is considered a key step toward the future Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed line. Alstom will deploy its Onvia Control signaling system based on ERTMS Level 1 technology, designed to enhance safety, punctuality, and capacity while reducing the network's carbon footprint, the company said Thursday in a press release. «This strategic contract reflects our shared ambition to advance mobility in Morocco through cutting-edge technology. By bringing our expertise in signaling, we are helping to build a safer, more efficient, and more sustainable rail network for passengers and regions», said Mehdi Sahel, Managing Director of Alstom Maroc. Present in Morocco for a century, Alstom has already supplied Rabat and Casablanca with Citadis trams, Prima locomotives, and Avelia high-speed trains for Africa's first high-speed rail line. Today, more than 1,300 km of Moroccan tracks are equipped with its signaling systems, and its industrial site in Fès produces Mitrac transformers and cables.
