On Tuesday, Morocco and The Gambia signed an air services agreement in Montreal, on the sidelines of the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly. The accord was formalized at ICAO headquarters by Morocco's ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani, and the Gambian Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah. It aims to modernize the legal framework governing civil aviation relations between the two countries. In line with the Yamoussoukro Declaration on the liberalization of African air transport and the African Union's Agenda 2063, the agreement reaffirms both nations' commitment to the highest safety standards, cooperation against unlawful acts, and the establishment of mechanisms for dispute resolution through consultation or arbitration. Minister Sillah told the press the agreement marks an important step in strengthening already strong bilateral ties. He added that it reflects the shared determination of both countries to advance ICAO's objectives. The ICAO Assembly, convened by the organization's Council at least once every three years, brings together representatives from its 193 member states and international organizations to set the global policy agenda for civil aviation. On the sidelines of the session, the Moroccan delegation, led by Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with counterparts and international officials to expand technical and operational cooperation in various areas of civil aviation.
