On Tuesday night, September 30, 263 members of the security forces and 23 civilians were injured, including one person in Oujda who required medical follow-up, in demonstrations in that escalated into violent incidents in several Moroccan cities, the Interior Ministry announced in a press release this Wednesday. The ministry provided a detailed breakdown: 69 officers injured in Inzegane–Ait Melloul; 51 in Oujda–Angad; 44 in Temara; 28 in Beni Mellal; 13 in Errachidia; 10 in Berkane; eight each in Tiznit and Kenitra; five each in Chtouka Ait Baha, Rabat, and Guelmim; four each in Nador, Khenifra, and Meknes; two in Ouarzazate and Casablanca; and one in Taroudant. Some demonstrations escalated further with individuals using knives, Molotov cocktails, and stones. As a result, 142 public security vehicles and 20 private cars were severely damaged. The statement added that protesters stormed government offices, banks, and shops in Ait Amira (Chtouka Ait Baha), Inzegane–Ait Melloul, Agadir, Tiznit, and Oujda, with looting and destruction reported. In Oujda, protesters allegedly blocked a civil protection ambulance from assisting the injured. Authorities confirmed that 409 people were placed in custody on orders from the public prosecutor, while others were released after identity checks. The ministry stressed that the protests were «organized outside the legal framework in response to anonymous calls on social media» and that interventions were conducted «in full respect of legal provisions and professional standards». The statement reaffirmed the authorities' commitment to maintaining public order and protecting freedoms, including the right to peaceful protest «within the limits of the law», while vowing to respond «firmly and in accordance with the law» to anyone proven to have committed criminal acts.
