The protests led by Generation Z in Morocco have made waves across the Atlantic, reaching the United Nations headquarters in New York. These demonstrations were brought up during a press briefing last night by Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General. An Arab journalist voiced his surprise at the absence of an official UN statement concerning the ongoing protests in Morocco. «There are riots in Morocco for the last three days, and many people were arrested. And the young people who are protesting health conditions and education and other domestic issues are being harassed and arrested in Morocco», he noted. In response, Farhan Haq succinctly stated, «On Morocco, what I can tell you is that we want to make sure that everyone's right to freedom of expression and to peaceful protest is fully respected». In contrast, the United Nations has already released a statement addressing the protests currently unfolding in Ecuador.
