On Wednesday, King Mohammed VI launched the construction of a regional complex for the reception and psycho-social rehabilitation of people with mental and psychological illnesses in the commune of Sidi Hajjaj Oued Hassar, Médiouna Province (Casablanca–Settat region). The project, to be carried out by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, represents a total investment of 300 million dirhams. The project aims to support patients during stabilization and recovery through cognitive therapies, specialized psychological treatments, and vocational activities. The new facility will accommodate and care for people with psychological disorders by offering psycho-social rehabilitation services and training programs to help them acquire specific skills, paving the way for their social and professional reintegration. It forms part of a wider action plan led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, designed to support Morocco's national health system by strengthening existing healthcare provision, improving access to treatment for vulnerable populations, and integrating a complementary social approach into patient support. The project also reinforces the Foundation's broader mission of assisting populations facing material or psychological hardship, particularly those suffering from mental health conditions. The Foundation has developed tailored support mechanisms that combine reception, listening, educational and social supervision, medical care, and capacity-building to reduce social isolation, improve living conditions, and encourage independence. The regional psycho-social rehabilitation complex will be built on an eight-hectare site and will include a 396-bed residential center, with 84 beds reserved for women. It will also feature a therapeutic and training wing with discussion rooms, offices for psychiatrists and psychologists, spaces for sports, occupational therapy, observation and rest, hairdressing, training facilities, and art, music, and theater workshops, in addition to a library. A medical hub will provide psychological education and therapy rooms, general medicine, psychiatry, psychology, dental care, and observation services. The facility will also include a logistical wing (kitchen, cafeteria, laundry), a pedagogical farm, sports fields, and administrative offices. The project, scheduled for completion within 24 months, will be financed through a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, the Casablanca–Settat Regional Council, Casablanca's Prefectural Council, Médiouna's Provincial Council, Casablanca City Council, and the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH). Once completed, the complex will be managed by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, with support from the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family. It will add to the range of projects and initiatives spearheaded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, strengthening multi-faceted efforts to improve the well-being of vulnerable populations in the Casablanca–Settat region.
