The Interior Ministry announced that on Wednesday night, October 1, violent incidents during GenZ protests escalated into serious riots across multiple Moroccan regions. Authorities reported that minors made up more than 70% of participants in some gatherings, with certain groups consisting entirely of underage youths. The protests saw the use of stones, bladed weapons, gas canisters, and burning tires. In Qliaa, Inzegane–Aït Melloul province, protesters attempted to storm a Royal Gendarmerie post to seize ammunition and service weapons. Gendarmerie officers used their firearms in self-defense, resulting in three deaths. Nationwide, 354 people were injured, including 326 members of security forces. Significant damage was reported to 271 public security vehicles and 175 private cars. About 80 facilities, including administrative, health, security, municipal offices, banks, and shops, were attacked or vandalized in 23 provinces and prefectures. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of public prosecutors. Adults have been placed in custody, while minors were held under juvenile procedures. The Interior Ministry reiterated that all interventions are carried out within legal frameworks and pledged to pursue all those involved in acts of violence and vandalism with firmness and strict adherence to the law.
