For the first time, a delegation from the Sahrawi Movement for Peace (MSP) is taking part in the United Nations' Fourth Committee sessions, which address political issues and decolonization. In New York, the MSP is advocating for a «third way» to resolve the Western Sahara conflict. According to the organization, this approach calls for «a new strategy that promotes ending hostilities and pursuing a political solution without winners or losers, backed by international guarantees». The organization's participation in the Fourth Committee has drawn criticism from media outlets aligned with the Polisario. Notably, the MSP's Secretary-General, Hach Ahmed Bericalla, a former «Polisario minister», was slated to speak immediately following the Polisario Front's representative in New York, Mohamed Ammar, during the committee's proceedings. Both are attending as petitioners. Prior to their arrival at the UN headquarters, the MSP delegation engaged in discussions in Washington with advisors to U.S. Congress members. Since December 2024, the Sahrawi Movement for Peace has been sitting alongside the Polisario within the Socialist International (SI).
