The Polisario Front is stepping up its efforts in the United States to counter a bill introduced last week by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, which seeks to designate the group as a terrorist organization. Following comments made by former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, the American organization «Global Monitoring Center» sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, according to a report from the Polisario Front's press agency. In the letter, the NGO expressed concern over what it described as «inaccurate information and claims propagated by the Moroccan lobby in the United States», warning against efforts to associate the Polisario Front with terrorism and extremist groups. The organization cautioned against «danger of misinformation and fallacy in distorting the just struggle of the Sahrawi people», stating that such narratives threaten prospects for peace, justice, democracy, and the right to self-determination. «The Global Monitoring Center» was among the petitioners who backed the Polisario Front in September 2024 in New York during the sessions of the UN Fourth Committee. Currently, the U.S. Senate is controlled by the Republican Party, which holds 53 seats compared to 47 for the Democrats.
