As the United Nations Security Council prepares to adopt a new resolution on the Sahara issue, Nasser Bourita is intensifying his diplomatic efforts at the highest levels. After recent discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow and French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, the Moroccan Foreign Minister met yesterday in Paris with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 4th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Diplomacies. «We continue to strengthen the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between our two countries», declared the Spanish Minister. Bourita and Albares had previously met on September 23 in New York during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This latest meeting holds significant weight, coming just days before the UN adopts a pivotal resolution on the Sahara issue. Spain plays a crucial role as part of the «Group of Friends of Western Sahara», which includes the United States, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom. This group is instrumental in the consultations leading up to the Security Council's decision. Since March 2022, Spain has backed Morocco's autonomy plan for the region, recognizing it as «the most serious, realistic, and credible basis» for resolving the territorial conflict.
