Bouchra Baibanou, representing the Royal Moroccan Federation of Skiing and Mountain Sports, has been elected to the continental council of the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) as Africa's representative. Baibanou is celebrated as the first North African woman to conquer Mount Everest and the only one to have scaled the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. She surpasses the South African representative, as highlighted by the Federation in a statement. This election, held alongside the UIAA General Assembly, honors Baibanou's leadership, inspiring journey, and her dedication to advancing mountaineering in Morocco and across Africa. The Moroccan Federation, a UIAA member since 2017, takes part in this congress to bolster parallel diplomacy and promote the national cause, according to the same source. In her new role, Bouchra Baibanou will amplify the voices of Africa and Morocco within this globally esteemed organization, contributing to the sustainable, inclusive, and secure development of mountain sports.
