On Monday, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita received in Rabat a delegation from the Italian parliamentary intergroup, which came to express its support for Morocco's autonomy initiative in the Sahara. The working visit will continue in Morocco until October 28. Following the meeting, Ettore Rosato, the coordinator of the delegation and Secretary General of the Azione Party, told the press that the purpose of the visit was to reaffirm his group's support for the Sahara autonomy plan. He described the initiative as a «long-term peace proposal», according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Rosato also expressed confidence that a resolution under the auspices of the UN Security Council would pave the way for lasting peace in the region. The Italian official praised the development momentum in Morocco's Southern Provinces, noting that the visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Green March and forms part of the celebrations marking 200 years of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Italy. Before meeting with the Moroccan foreign minister, the Italian parliamentary delegation visited Laâyoune, where they held talks with the city's mayor and the president of the Laâyoune–Sakia El Hamra Regional Council. The delegation includes seven parliamentarians from both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, representing parties from across Italy's political spectrum, both majority and opposition.
