The Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and Air Transat have announced the launch of the first-ever direct flight between Montreal and Agadir, set to begin on June 12, 2026. Operated once a week, this historic route will mark the first direct air link between North America and southern Morocco, strengthening Agadir's position as a gateway to the country's Atlantic coast, writes ONMT in a press release on Thursday. The new connection is part of ONMT's international expansion strategy aimed at diversifying tourism markets and reducing seasonality. The agreement with the Canadian carrier, voted «Best Leisure Airline in the World» by Skytrax for three consecutive years, will use an Airbus A321LR, offering greater efficiency and lower emissions. With over 174,000 Canadian visitors recorded by August 2025, a 29% increase from the previous year, the Canadian market has become a strategic priority for Morocco. Following the 2024 launch of the Montreal–Marrakech route, the Montreal–Agadir service further consolidates Morocco's growing presence in North America and supports Agadir's tourism ecosystem through increased hotel stays, job creation, and new local opportunities.
