The deepening ties between Morocco and Kenya were on full display during Princess Lalla Asmaa's two-day working visit to Nairobi, undertaken at the invitation of Kenya's First Lady, Rachel Ruto. As president of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, the Princess's visit reflects Morocco's growing engagement with African nations through humanitarian and social initiatives. Upon her arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Princess Lalla Asmaa was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Ruto. According to the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), «This visit to Kenya aligns perfectly with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, which places humanity, dignity, and solidarity at the heart of Morocco's development model. Morocco remains a nation open to the world, offering human-centered and sustainable solutions». The royal visit comes at a politically symbolic moment, further consolidating the friendly relations between Rabat and Nairobi, particularly after the Kenyan government's endorsement of Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara on May 25. It's worth recalling that in July 2024, Princess Lalla Asmaa also received Gabriela Rodríguez de Bukele, First Lady of El Salvador, during her visit to Morocco. El Salvador had previously withdrawn its recognition of the so-called «Sahrawi Republic» in June 2019, signaling a broader diplomatic realignment toward Morocco's territorial integrity.
