The Nador West Med port project has wrapped up and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026, Morocco's Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka said on Monday. The port, located in the Driouch province, will handle up to three million containers annually, following agreements signed with major companies, including CMA CGM, a global maritime transport leader. Speaking before the parliamentary infrastructure committee, Baraka emphasized that Nador West Med is not limited to serving Nador and Driouch but will benefit regions across the country. «We have already established a connection with Fez and will build a new highway between Guercif and Nador», he said, noting that roads linking Taourirt, Guercif, Al Hoceima, Oujda, and Saïdia via Route 16 will also be widened and reinforced to ensure efficient connectivity. The minister underlined that industrial zones will be developed in all these provinces to take full advantage of the port's logistics potential. He also highlighted plans to connect Fez-Meknes to the port, reducing travel time between the two regions to under two hours. Designed as both a transit and container transshipment hub, Nador West Med is modeled after the success of Tangier Med.
