Morocco's Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, told the House of Representatives on Monday that 300 kilometers of highways are currently under construction. Plans are also underway for an additional 900 kilometers as part of various programs, including regional development initiatives. In response to an oral question, Baraka highlighted several key projects, including the highway connecting Tiznit and Dakhla, the route linking Fez and Taounate via National Road No. 8, the connection of Nador port to the western Mediterranean, and the Tetouan-Chefchaouen highway along National Road No. 2. Other projects include the northeast orbital road and urban expressway in Agadir, the tripling of National Road No. 6 between Dar Sekka and Sidi Allal El Bahraoui, and the Sidi Yahya-Sidi Qasim expressway via National Road No. 4. Baraka also mentioned plans to widen Regional Road No. 710, which connects Khenifra and Bejaad, extending over 85 kilometers to a width of 9 meters and reinforcing it as part of a partnership agreement for road and infrastructure projects in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region. This work is included in the program contract between the State and the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region (2020-2022) and is estimated to cost 364 million dirhams. He added that the detailed studies for this expansion and reinforcement are well advanced. Regarding motorways, Baraka confirmed that the ministry is accelerating the completion of the 104-kilometer motorway linking Jerada and Nador, with an investment of around 7.9 billion dirhams. This route will connect Nador West Mediterranean port to the national motorway network. He also noted that the ministry, through the National Motorway Company, is working to complete the 30-kilometer Tétouan-Berchid motorway and the 59-kilometer Rabat-Casablanca continental motorway.
