Israeli President Isaac Herzog has sent a letter to King Mohammed VI of Morocco, congratulating him on the United Nations Security Council's October 31 resolution endorsing Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara. Herzog called the resolution «an important diplomatic achievement and a significant step toward a lasting political solution». He added that he hoped it «will encourage other countries to follow Israel's example», recalling Israel's recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara in July 2023. The letter, delivered on November 6, one week after the UN vote, also coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of the Green March, according to Hebrew media reports. In his message, Herzog conveyed his «warmest greetings and most sincere wishes to the Kingdom of Morocco and its people». The Israeli president stressed that «the State of Israel places profound value on the historical, cultural, and human ties that unite our two peoples», adding, «We consider Morocco a model of tolerance and coexistence in our region, and we are proud of the friendship and mutual respect that define our growing partnership». Herzog's message follows similar congratulations sent earlier this month by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to King Mohammed VI after the adoption of the UN resolution. «I wish to congratulate His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the UN Security Council's adoption of a resolution supporting Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty», Netanyahu wrote, according to the same source.
