The Egyptian side then secured their win in stoppage time, courtesy of a goal by Mohamed Salah (90+1). Earlier in the day, South Africa also emerged victorious, defeating Angola with a 2-1 scoreline in another Group B encounter. Following this first matchday, Egypt and South Africa sit atop the Group B standings, each boasting three points.
