The Limburg prosecutor's office announced on Monday that these suspects were «identified by the Limburg federal judicial police (PJF), leading to the issuance of a European arrest warrant against them». The suspects were intercepted while attempting to cross into Morocco via the Iberian Peninsula. They are also suspected of drug trafficking, which is believed to be linked to the shooting incident that left one person injured. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, where the victim was found in critical condition. Belgian investigators have reportedly connected this shooting to similar incidents in Genk, all tied to drug-related conflicts. Quoting several media sources, Marijke Teunis, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, noted that «the exact circumstances and the presumed motive of the perpetrators remain unknown». She added, «We are therefore awaiting their extradition from Spain to Belgium, which should not take much longer». In the meantime, the suspects are being held in a Spanish prison as they await extradition proceedings.
