DR ‹ › The parliamentary group of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) raised concerns at the opening of the oral question session held on Monday, December 29, at the House of Representatives, over what it described as delays by the government, led by Aziz Akhannouch, in providing clear and comprehensive responses regarding the tragedies that struck Fès and Safi. Invoking Article 163 of the House's internal regulations, lawmakers from the Islamist party called on the government to clarify the exact number of victims, the extent of material damage, and the measures taken to support families who lost relatives or property in the two disasters. Article 163 stipulates that «Representatives have the right to speak at the end of the weekly session devoted to oral questions to raise a general and urgent issue that must be highlighted and brought to the attention of national public opinion. The president of the parliamentary group or grouping shall notify in writing the President of the House of requests submitted by Representatives belonging to or affiliated with the group or parliamentary grouping». The article further specifies that such notification must concern «a general and urgent matter and be submitted at least twenty-four hours before the opening of the session. Representatives not affiliated with any group or parliamentary grouping shall submit their requests directly to the President of the House, who in turn informs the Government of the subject of the requests». It also states that «if it is not possible to schedule requests to speak on a general and urgent matter during the first week following submission, they shall be scheduled for the following week, taking into account the time allocated to such requests». The collapse of two buildings in Fès on December 9 left 22 people dead and 16 injured. In Safi, severe flooding claimed the lives of 37 people.
