DR ‹ › On Monday afternoon, the headquarters of the Popular Movement (MP) in Rabat hosted a crucial meeting with trade unions and professional organizations from the press sector. The session, attended by the party's Secretary-General, Mohamed Ouzzine, focused on the recent developments surrounding Bill 026.25, which proposes a reorganization of the National Press Council (CNP). This discussion came in the wake of the bill's approval by the House of Councillors. In a written statement released after the meeting, participants highlighted that the vote was notably marked by the opposition's withdrawal from the session. The opposition also requested that the President of the House refer the bill to the Constitutional Court. Yesterday, seven opposition parties in Parliament reinforced their call for a review of the bill's alignment with constitutional principles. During the meeting, the parties, including the MP, underscored «the constitutional and legal deficiencies of this text, as confirmed by advisory opinions from two constitutional bodies: the Economic, Social and Environmental Council and the National Human Rights Council». Additionally, the MP's Secretary-General expressed surprise at the government's dismissal of amendments proposed by the party's parliamentary group in the House of Councillors. Mohamed Ouzzine emphasized his party's readiness to «back any political and legislative efforts aimed at opposing the current form of the CNP reorganization bill». The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the National Union of Moroccan Press (SNPM), the Moroccan Federation of Newspaper Publishers (FMEJ), the National Federation of Journalism, Information, and Communication (FENAJIC) linked to the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT), the National Union of Media and Press (CDT), and the Moroccan Confederation of Newspaper and Electronic Media Publishers.
