DR ‹ › The public prosecutor in Lyon has been alerted by the Rhône prefect, Fabienne Buccio, over remarks made by Algerian supporters targeting Moroccans and Jews during celebrations following Algeria's victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo last Tuesday. The prefect filed a report under Article 40 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure for «incitement to hatred based on real or supposed membership of an ethnic group, nation, alleged race, or religion». The incidents were identified through videos circulating online. According to information reported by Europe 1 and confirmed by Le Figaro, the prefect specifically referred to chants initiated by some supporters gathered in the Guillotière district. Videos shared on social media show a group of supporters draped in Algerian flags chanting in Arabic. «The content of the remarks has been confirmed by state services», a prefectural source told Le Figaro. While the gathering celebrating the Fennecs' victory initially unfolded without incident, rising tensions prompted law enforcement to intervene and disperse a crowd of around 500 people, in order to restore traffic flow and ensure the proper operation of tramway services.
