Badr Abdelaty and Nasser Bourita / Archive ‹ › On the evening of January 27, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty held a telephone conversation with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The exchange was described as part of the «regular consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries», according to an official statement from Egypt's Foreign Ministry. The communiqué noted that «the two ministers reaffirmed the strength and depth of bilateral relations between Egypt and Morocco, as well as their continued development across several areas, notably political, economic, and commercial». They also stressed their shared commitment to further strengthening the partnership between the two countries, particularly in the political, economic, and investment fields, in the interest of both nations. The discussions also addressed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Moroccan-Egyptian High Joint Commission, which will be co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries. The meeting aims to boost bilateral cooperation and advance the shared interests of Rabat and Cairo. It is worth noting that Nasser Bourita and Badr Abdelaty had previously held a telephone conversation on December 28. This increase in high-level contacts, both official and unofficial, comes against a regional backdrop marked by closer ties between Morocco and Ethiopia, particularly in the military sphere. On January 15, Addis Ababa hosted the inaugural meeting of the Moroccan-Ethiopian joint military commission. Meanwhile, Egypt and Ethiopia continue to experience tensions over the long-standing dispute surrounding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
