DR ‹ › Racial discrimination in the Tindouf camps has resurfaced following the assault of a 13-year-old boy from the black community by members of an influential family belonging to the Rguibat tribe. The boy, identified as Mouloud, is being supported by the «Liberty and Democracy» Association, known for its advocacy on human rights issues in the camps. The NGO organized two sit-ins on March 7 and 14 in front of the Polisario's administrative headquarters in the Rabouni camp. It also requested a meeting with Brahim Ghali to present the facts and demand accountability, but these requests have gone unanswered. The protests drew limited participation from camp residents. More concerningly, the association's president was summoned before the Front's «justice» system on charges of «violating the ban on public gatherings». In response, the association has announced a new sit-in scheduled for March 24 in front of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' representation in the Tindouf camps. It also plans to send letters to international human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. The NGO had previously organized a sit-in in December 2022 to denounce practices of slavery and racial discrimination in the Tindouf camps.
