Achraf Fayda, Director General of the ONMT ‹ › As spring draws near, the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) is rolling out a fresh wave of the Ntla9awfbladna campaign, spotlighting domestic tourism. This initiative features «an immersive film and a 360° media setup» designed to showcase «the richness of Morocco's landscapes and outdoor experiences, while motivating Moroccans to transition from inspiration to action». On this occasion, ONMT's General Director, Achraf Fayda, underscores that domestic tourism is «one of the pillars of national tourism», contributing to nearly 28% of all tourist overnight stays recorded in Morocco by 2025. He notes that «certain regions naturally attract a significant portion of these flows», with Marrakech-Safi, Souss-Massa, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima being «the most visited destinations by Moroccan travelers». The peak occurs in August, with up to 40% of national overnight stays. The national campaign also aims to «encourage Moroccans to further explore the diversity of the territory, to increase getaways throughout the year, and to develop a renewed perspective on the destinations» within their country, extending beyond the summer season. In this context, Achraf Fayda observes a «progressive evolution in travel behaviors». «The first months of 2026 confirm this trend with a 4% increase in national overnight stays in January», totaling 856,087 overnight stays. He highlights that «certain destinations record particularly significant growth», including Ifrane (+74%), El Jadida (+48%), and Casablanca (+41%). According to him, «these changes confirm the emergence of a growing interest in travel experiences closer to nature and for destinations that remain relatively unexplored», such as those with high potential like Dakhla or Laayoune. In this framework, the ONMT's strategy involves not only stimulating national demand and diversifying travel flows to new territories but also promoting nature tourism and «supporting operators in adapting their offerings». For the official, domestic tourism serves as a «vector of territorial balance, economic resilience, and the enhancement of the tourist experience».
