DR ‹ › In a startling revelation, one of the accused in the drug tunnel case linking Ceuta and Morocco has exposed the involvement of Civil Guard members stationed at the Ceuta port. He claims these officers have been instrumental for years in aiding smuggling networks to channel drugs from Morocco into Spain. Testifying before the National Court, the defendant, who was implicated in the transportation of 1,397 kilograms of hashish, disclosed that he was paid between 3,000 and 4,000 euros for his roles in surveillance and transportation. He further revealed that the offer came from an individual believed to be the mastermind behind the network—a person who is also the brother of a Ceuta parliament deputy involved in the case and currently out on bail. As part of "Operation Hades," authorities are scrutinizing four Civil Guard members suspected of facilitating the drug shipments and leaking security information in exchange for payments that could reach up to 12,000 euros. The defendant affirmed that the presence of "compromised" elements within the port was a widely acknowledged fact. Back in March 2025, investigations led to the discovery of a 50-meter-long secret tunnel, buried 12 meters deep within a warehouse in the "Tarajal" industrial area. This tunnel had been operational for over a decade, facilitating drug smuggling to a site on the Moroccan side. Spanish authorities continue to investigate this case, with charges including drug trafficking, membership in a criminal organization, and bribery. It is anticipated that those involved will soon face trial.
