DR ‹ › Spain's Minister of the Presidency, Justice, and Relations with Parliament, Félix Bolaños, assured his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Ouahbi, of his government's rejection of the racist chants that occurred during a recent friendly match between the national teams of Spain and Egypt, emphasizing that they «do not represent the Spanish people». Bolaños made this statement on Friday in Rabat, on the sidelines of signing a trilateral agreement with Morocco and Portugal to enhance cooperation in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup. He clarified that «the government's stance is clear; these chants are completely unacceptable», affirming that Spain is «an open and tolerant country that rejects hatred, xenophobia, and all forms of insult». He added that his country «strives to project its image as a welcoming, open, and pluralistic nation, regardless of people's origins». The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced on Tuesday that it has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish Football Federation, following chants against Islam and foreigners by some fans during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt on March 31. During the match held at the «RCDE» Stadium near Barcelona, some fans chanted slogans with a racist undertone, including a phrase targeting Muslims, saying, «Whoever doesn't jump is a Muslim».
