Following the re-election of Abdelilah Benkirane at the 9th congress held in late April in Bouznika, the Justice and Development Party (PJD) is urging the Ministry of the Interior to initiate consultations on organizing the 2026 legislative elections. This request was made on Tuesday, May 6, by Abdellah Bouanou, head of the parliamentary group, during a meeting of the Interior Commission at the House of Representatives, attended by Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit. Bouanou, who has been leading the PJD's election committee since Saturday, May 4, emphasized that addressing this issue «will create fair competition conditions among the different parties participating in the election». He also accused the three parties of the government majority of «using the World Cup as an electoral tool», calling for accelerated discussions regarding the upcoming elections. The National Rally of Independents (RNI), led by Aziz Akhannouch, has openly expressed its ambition to lead the «World Cup government». The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), led by Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri, and the Istiqlal Party, headed by Nizar Baraka, share this aspiration. In principle, the government is expected to begin consultations in the coming months with all parties, including those not represented in the two Houses of Parliament, to define the legal framework for the 2026 legislative elections, particularly concerning the electoral threshold and the delineation of constituencies.
