On Monday, May 12, the investigative judge at the Court of Appeal in Fez decided to move forward with the case against Mustapha Lakhsem, a former boxer and current head of the Imouzzer Kandar municipality from the Popular Movement Party, while allowing him to remain at liberty and imposing a travel ban. This decision follows a complaint filed by municipal councilors regarding alleged embezzlement of public funds and manipulation in the case of temporary workers. The session has been postponed until May 19 for further questioning, with bail set at 20,000 dirhams. In a video posted on social media, Lakhsem stated, «I will not pay the bail, because if I do, I consider myself guilty», adding, «I might get arrested, but that's not a problem because I haven't done anything illegal». He also affirmed that he would «appeal the decision».
