On May 13, 2025, a Moroccan peacekeeper serving with the United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was killed in a traffic accident during a logistical operation. A Congolese language assistant working for the same mission also lost their life, according to a statement from the Royal Armed Forces. The Moroccan peacekeeper, a member of the Moroccan Rapid Intervention Battalion deployed with the UN's peacekeeping forces, was in a UN vehicle carrying six people when it veered off a slope in the North Kivu region, resulting in his immediate death. Four other Moroccan soldiers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the UN hospital in Goma for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
