A delegation of Palestinian female judges and prosecutors recently completed a 10-day study tour in Morocco (May 3-12), aimed at enhancing gender-responsive justice and fostering regional collaboration, reads a press release on May 19. Supported by the Sawasya III Joint Programme through UNDP and UN Women, in partnership with Palestinian judicial institutions, the visit was hosted by the Moroccan Female Judges Union and led by Judge Mina Sougrati, Head of the International Female Judges Association. The delegation, including members of the Founding Committee of the Palestinian Female Judges and Prosecutors Forum, engaged with Moroccan counterparts to exchange expertise on forum development, leadership challenges, and survivor-centered justice approaches. Discussions covered organizational frameworks, elections, resources, coordination, and awareness campaigns. This initiative addresses the persistent underrepresentation of women in Palestine's judicial leadership, aiming to empower female judges and prosecutors through a democratic platform endorsed in November 2024. The tour built on prior efforts, including a 2019 foundational workshop, helping shape a roadmap for the forum's operationalization. «This tour formed an inspirational experience for Palestinian female judges and prosecutors», said Hanan Kamar, Rule of Law and Protection Specialist at UN Women. The Moroccan experience served as inspiration, highlighting Morocco's commitment to gender equality and inclusive justice as part of its regional leadership role.
