Police in Casablanca have arrested a woman suspected of committing a horrific crime that has shocked public opinion. According to Assabah newspaper, she allegedly tortured her three-year-old son to death in a home she shared with a Syrian national. The woman, who posed as a Syrian refugee to deceive passersby and solicit aid while begging, was placed in preliminary detention along with her partner, who is also suspected of involvement in the crime. The case came to light after the mother attempted to mislead medical and security authorities by claiming that her son had died in an accidental fall down the stairs. However, a medical examination revealed disturbing signs of abuse and torture on the child's body. The findings prompted the medical team to alert authorities, who quickly opened an investigation. Judicial police inquiries uncovered the mother's efforts to cover up the crime. She initially blamed her Syrian partner, claiming he had fled after assaulting the child and hoping his lack of official identification would deflect suspicion. However, authorities were able to track him down in the city of Martil, where he was arrested. During questioning, the man denied taking part in the abuse, admitting only to his unlawful relationship with the mother. As the investigation progressed and evidence mounted, the woman ultimately confessed, claiming she hadn't intended to kill her son but was merely «punishing» him.
