Heavy thunderstorms with local hail and strong gusts are expected this Friday, while a heatwave is forecast to persist from Friday through Tuesday across several regions of Morocco, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). In an orange-level alert, the DGM announced that thunderstorms producing 15 to 25 mm of rainfall, along with local hail and gusty winds, are expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday in the provinces of Azilal, Rehamna, Marrakech, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, and Al Haouz. In addition, high temperatures ranging between 39°C and 44°C are forecast for Friday in the provinces of Ouezzane, Larache, Fès, Taounate, Meknès, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Khouribga, Béni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, and El Kelaa des Sraghna. On Saturday, similar conditions (38°C to 43°C) will affect Ouezzane, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Fquih Ben Salah, and Settat. The heatwave will continue from Friday to Tuesday in the southern provinces of Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab, where temperatures could reach between 40°C and 45°C, the DGM added.
