Morocco's historic Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou has been recognized among the world's 21 most beautiful castles, representing the only North African fortress to make the prestigious international list. According to CNN Travel, the massive mudbrick structure on the edge of the Sahara has gained international recognition through its appearances in more than a dozen movies and television productions, including «Game of Thrones», «Gladiator», and «The Man Who Would Be King». The 17th-century complex features a fortified lower town along the Asif Ounila River, where residents continue to live today, alongside a partially ruined hilltop citadel. Originally constructed as an overnight stop for caravans traveling between Marrakech and Sudan, the ksar demonstrates traditional Berber architecture. The site now accommodates visitors through Berber-style guest houses, maintaining its historical function as a waystation while serving modern tourism needs. The fortress represents Morocco's architectural heritage on a global platform, standing alongside renowned castles from Japan (Himeji Castle), Germany (Neuschwanstein), and Scotland (Edinburgh Castle) in the international compilation.
