The National Agency for Water and Forests issued a new nationwide alert today, warning of a heightened risk of forest fires between June 27 and July 4, 2025. The bulletin notes that several regions across the country will face varying levels of fire danger. The agency stated that this alert is part of its proactive strategy to prevent and manage forest fires. It was developed using precise scientific data, taking into account the type and flammability of forest cover, climate forecasts, and the topographical features of each region. According to the agency's risk classification, the following areas are facing extreme fire risk: Tangier-Assilah, Ouezzane, Larache, Chefchaouen, Taza, Taounate, Al Hoceima, Kenitra, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Skhirat-Temara, Salé, Rabat, and Khemisset. The high-risk level includes: M'diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Fahs-Anjra, Sefrou, Khénifra, Ifrane, Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Nador, Berkane, and Driouch. A moderate risk has been reported in: Sidi Slimane, Meknes, Essaouira, Benslimane, and Taroudant. In its statement, the agency urged all citizens, particularly those living near forests, forest workers, vacationers, and visitors to exercise maximum caution and avoid any actions that could spark fires. It also stressed the importance of reporting any signs of smoke or suspicious activity immediately to local authorities. These measures are part of the agency's broader efforts to address the impacts of climate change and strengthen the protection of Morocco's forest resources.
