The Royal Guard team emerged victorious in the third edition of the Polo Throne Cup, held in Rabat, with the final match taking place on Sunday. Organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation, the event spanned from July 21 to 27. In a four-period showdown at the Royal Guard Polo Club in Souissi-Rabat, the Royal Guard claimed the championship by defeating the Ajdir Polo and Equestrian Club with a score of 4 to 2. Securing third place, the PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club triumphed over the Marrakech Polo Club in a ranking match on Saturday, finishing with a score of 9 to 5.5. At the conclusion of this thrilling edition, Moulay Abdallah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Sports Federation, awarded the trophy to the captain of the winning team. This year's competition featured six teams from national clubs affiliated with the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation: the Royal Guard, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Royal Cavalry School, PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club, Marrakech Polo Club, and Ajdir Polo and Equestrian Club. In the previous edition, the title was claimed by Patrick Guerrand-Hermès (PGH) La Palmeraie Polo Club of Assilah, who narrowly defeated the Royal Guard team with a score of 6 to 5. Polo matches consist of several periods, ranging from 4 to 8, each lasting 7 minutes, with 3-minute intervals for players to change horses. If the teams are tied at the end of regulation time, overtime is played, with the first team to score a goal declared the winner. Matches are overseen by two referees on horseback, and in the event of a dispute, a third referee off the field is consulted to make the final decision.
