On the Sahara issue, Jacob Zuma is leaving his mark on South African diplomacy. Following the former South African president's remarks last week at the University of Accra in Ghana, where he voiced support for Morocco's sovereignty over the territory, the South African embassy in Algiers responded by hosting a new diplomatic forum in support of the Polisario on Monday, August 25. At a press conference, the South African ambassador and the Polisario representative in Algiers highlighted the «victories of the Sahrawi people», pointing to the Front's participation in the SADC summit (Southern African Development Community) on August 17 in Madagascar, as well as its presence at the TICAD 9 conference in Japan, despite recent setbacks. This latest forum comes only weeks after a similar event under the same theme, organized in reaction to Zuma's decision to recognize Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara during his July 15 visit to Rabat, where he met with Nasser Bourita. It is worth noting that South Africa had already hosted another session of this diplomatic forum in Algiers on April 29. Typically, these events, initiated by the South African diplomatic mission in Algiers to back the Polisario, are not held with such frequency.
